Increasingly, younger women are slowing the results of aging with prejuvenation procedures that have become standard aspects of their beauty routines.
When it comes to beauty and overall well being, why wait for the signs of age to take over? It’s better to be proactive and offensive when it comes to stopping the effects of time on your face in the form of wrinkles, creases, crows’ feet, and laugh lines.
How can you prevent the results of aging? What are some procedures you could add to your regimen that would help you keep your youthful appearance?
Let’s take a look at prejuvenation procedures and how they can help you.
Top Prejuvenation Procedures
Most common among the prejuvenation procedures are injectables and fillers. These are non-surgical treatments that provide a youthful look without the cost and downtime of invasive surgery.
It is estimated that over one million men and women annually use injectables and dermal fillers, and many of these users are younger adults who are aiming to prevent aging.
Injectables and dermal fillers lessen the effects of aging skin by:
- restoring volume around hollowed areas,
- restoring the contours and smoothness of the face,
- providing volume and lift to problem areas by smoothing out wrinkles,
- plumping flat lips, and
- correcting hollowed skin areas.
There are two types of injectables, those that relax facial muscles and thereby mend facial lines and dermal fillers that plump out wrinkles. Dermal fillers are injected directly into the skin to correct the wrinkle, depression or fold; the filler can be either naturally derived or a synthetic material.
Here’s a brief look at what we offer to patients who are interested in prejuvenation at Marvel Cosmetic.
Botox is derived from a family of neurotoxins that relax facial muscles. By temporarily paralyzing muscles it can remove wrinkles cosmetically such as those above the eyebrows on the forehead also called frown lines, lines that form around the corners of eyes, and other facial wrinkles.
Dysport is very similar to Botox as it is from the same family of neurotoxins. With a different formulation, Dysport spreads to a wider area. The onset of Dysport is 2-5 days compared to 4-7 for Botox. There are some reports that results may not last as long as Botox, but this is still being studied.
Juvederm: A family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. An injection corrects moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles and lasts nine months to one year.
Restylane: A line of hyaluronic acid fillers that provide natural-looking results by smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds. Providing subtle lip enhancement and smoothing the lines, adding lift and volume to the cheeks.
Voluma: Voluma is also based on hyaluronic acid and used to treat the middle of the face including the nose and associated bony structures. As an HA filler, after injection, it can be shaped and molded into the desired contour. Voluma can last up to two years, almost twice as long as other fillers.
Kybella: The only FDA approved treatment to improve the appearance of extra fat below the chin, commonly known as a “double chin.” The active ingredient is based on a component the body makes for absorbing fat cells and is injected into the affected area of the chin.
Bellafill: A dermal filler that is meant to be a semi-permanent solution for wrinkles by restoring volume and fullness to the skin. Approved since October 2006 for the treatment of nasolabial fold, commonly know as “smile lines” or “laugh lines,” it is also used for acne scars, and smoothing wrinkles.
Prevention Is The Key to Youthful Skin
Doctors have emphasized the importance of healthy habits in maintaining beautiful, youthful skin: sun protection, healthy diet, and not smoking. These mandates should be a “given,” especially when it comes to preventing wrinkled, creased, and aging skin.
Prejuvenation techniques, such as regular use of injectables and fillers begun before the signs of aging appear, can be an important partner in the war against the effects of time.
