Tips for Choosing the Right Size Breast Implants

Once you decide to move forward with breast implant surgery, the next important decision is which size implants you should choose. It’s important that you weigh your options carefully with counsel from your cosmetic surgeon and trusted advisors.

As you think about your options, consider these tips for choosing the right size breast implants.

How to Choose the Right Size Breast Implants

  • Think about your physique. Consider your frame, height, weight, and shoulder and hip width. What size implant will best complement your body? Larger implants may be overwhelming on a thinner, more petite woman, while a taller woman who carries more weight could also accommodate larger breasts.
  • Consider your wardrobe. Want more cleavage for low-cut dresses? Larger implants may be for you. Concerned about maintaining professionalism and not calling too much attention to your new bust size? You may opt for smaller implants.
  • Take them for a test drive. Your cosmetic surgeon should have a way for you to give different implants a trial run. At Marvel Cosmetic Surgery, we offer silicone breast implant “sizers” that you can try on during your consultation appointment.
  • Bigger is not necessarily better. Don’t get too attached to wanting a certain cup size. You may think that you need a “D” or “DD” cup, but ultimately, you need to make a size decision based upon what’s best for your body, and your goals, regardless of size on the bra band.
  • Listen to others. Your cosmetic surgeon has a great deal of experience with placing the appropriate size implants in their patients. They will help you evaluate all of your options and will consider important aspects, such as the amount and quality of the surrounding breast tissue. Your surgeon’s goal is to provide wise counsel that will result in a natural look that suits your appearance and lifestyle. You may also want to bring a partner or trusted friend to your consultations to help you evaluate implant size.

At Marvel Cosmetic Surgery, our staff is committed to helping each person choose the right size breast implant that best suits the client.

Breast Lift and Implants After Pregnancy

Breast Lift and Implants After Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a wonderful phase in a woman’s life. It allows you to experience the happiness, contentment and fulfillment that comes from carrying and bringing a new life into this world. And while pregnancy is an incredible, life-changing experience, it also brings significant changes to a woman’s body, particularly to her breasts.

After pregnancy, you may find yourself wanting a lift or implants to restore the look of your breasts. In this blog, we break down some of the most commonly asked questions and misconceptions of having a breast lift or implants after giving birth.

Post Pregnancy Changes

Pregnancy causes various changes to your body, especially to your breasts. Due to the hormonal changes and imbalance, your breasts will be in a constant state of flux. Some changes will be permanent but generally, these changes will be temporary. Some of these will include a change in bust size, drooping or sagging breasts, protruding or stretched areolas, and uneven breast size. These changes are dependent on a number of factors – age, lifestyle, genetics and skin sensitivity. The good news is – all of these changes can be addressed with the right procedure.

If there is loss of volume in the upper portion of your breasts due to post-pregnancy changes then you are an excellent candidate for a breast lift or even breast augmentation. Both procedures will increase the fullness, projection and perkiness of your breasts, and improve the overall balance of your figure.

Stretch Marks

Another concern you may have about your post-baby breasts are stretch marks. Usually, the stretched skin returns to normal after pregnancy. But in some cases (usually genetics), stretch marks appear and stay forever. If your siblings, mom or even grandma had stretch marks post pregnancy, then chances are greater that you will too. A little correction will help as well.

A breast lift (Mastopexy) will help make your breasts firmer by removing any excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the breasts. This will help with stretch marks or stretched skin in being restored to a more youthful tightness. Many of our patients choose to get breast implants at the same time to achieve optimal results.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is one of the ultimate culprits behind the changes that happen to your breasts. Regardless if you’ve had just one or multiple kids, the impact that this has on your breasts is tremendous.

Think of the number of times that you have nursed your baby, the recurring inflation and deflation of your breasts, and not to mention, sore nipples. What’s worse is if you’re a constant victim of mastitis – blocked milk ducts.

Breastfeeding can lead to any of the following changes:

  • Shrinking breasts
  • Irregular lumps
  • Sagging skin
  • Smaller / bigger nipples
  • Irregular breast shapes

Fear not as you are not alone in this post-pregnancy journey. This is where a breast lift and/or breast augmentation can help. After pregnancy and breastfeeding, a breast lift is designed to enhance your breast shape and correct drooping, sagging breasts. Breast augmentation will restore lost volume and projection.

Most of our patients ask if it’s okay to get breast implants before having children, or whether it’s better to wait until after childbirth. And the truth is – we don’t have a definite answer to that. It actually varies from person to person. Pregnancy affects each woman differently.

If you do plan on becoming pregnant in the near future, within the next 12 months, then you might want to hold off on your plans of having a breast lift or breast augmentation. Why? Because your breasts will inevitably go through significant changes throughout your pregnancy and your shape, volume and size may change.

However, if you are done having children, and are ready to restore the youthful look of your pre-pregnancy breasts, you may be an excellent candidate for a breast lift or implants.

New Year, New You! Why 2019 is Your Year for Cosmetic Surgery

The new year is almost here, and we are looking forward to working with new patients and helping them achieve their goals. Our patients mean a lot to us, so we take time to understand their goals and to go above and beyond to create a treatment plan that will work specifically for them.

You would be surprised at the number of patients who wonder why it took them so long to pursue their procedure after they see their amazing results! There are many reasons why people delay treatment, so allow us to tell you why we believe 2019 is the best year for your cosmetic surgery!

Common Misbeliefs About Cosmetic Surgery

Here are the most common reasons we hear of why patients put off surgery:

  • Afraid the results won’t look natural
  • Being concerned they are too old
  • Not sure if it’s affordable
  • Wanting to achieve their goals without going under the knife
  • The safety of the procedures

Today with all the technology at our disposal doctors can provide patients with more tailored and natural looking results. In short, there hasn’t been a better time to consider cosmetic surgery!

Non-Invasive Procedures

One particular advancement that is revolutionizing the way cosmetic procedures are done in 2019 is the use of lasers.

Lasers enhance the epidermis in many ways. They tighten tissue, remove blemishes, reduce wrinkles, and give the skin a youthful appearance. Additionally, lasers are more targeted, so the precision is astonishing compared to what was offered just five years ago. What that means for you is the ability to get fantastic, natural results with less recovery time and light anesthesia.

Injections Offer More Options

The new year is all about a new you and if you want to improve the appearance of your skin by eliminating fine lines, wrinkles, and furrow lines, you no longer have to go under the knife! A treatment plan of injections can not only improve skin’s appearance but work as a preventative treatment to slow down the effects of aging. Through the use of fillers and Botox, patients can achieve a natural, youthful glow. If utilized appropriately, your treatment plan can also slow down the signs of aging.

Breast Augmentation Has More Options

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the leading cosmetic procedures in the United States and will continue to be one of our most requested in 2019. Over the years, implant options have expanded, giving patients more customization over the final appearance and feel of the implant. While saline and silicone remain two of the most popular, the market is continuing to expand with a third option. “Gummy Bear” implants are a new product that mimics the natural contours of the breast with an emphasis of fullness on the bottom.

Don’t want implants? There’s an option for that as well! Fat transfers utilize the body’s fat to add volume without relying on an implant of any kind. This technique is perfect for women who are wanting a subtle increase in volume with an minimal scarring.

At Marvel Cosmetic Surgery, we are committed to delivering the most advanced techniques and procedures to give our patients the best possible results. Our board-certified doctors are updating their expertise with continued education and providing procedures that are unique, customizable, safe, and yield natural-looking results. Learn more by contacting our offices at 615-329-3900.

What are Gummy Bear Breast Implants?

What are Gummy Bear Breast Implants?

Breast augmentation is an excellent way to improve the fullness and projection of your breast. There are many implants available that give patients flexibility and control over their final look and appearance. Silicone and saline are the most common materials used to construct implants, but a newer version is making ways onto the market and proving to be a superior choice for anyone wanting the most natural shape possible. Gummy bear implants are made from silicone but provide a completely different look and feel from traditional silicone implants.

Let’s take a closer look at gummy bear implants and see how they differ from other implants available.

What are Gummy Bear Implants?

Gummy Bear implants are a newer style of form-stable implants developed to give women the most natural shape possible. They’re constructed with a firm silicone outer layer and a cohesive gel silicone interior. The firm outer layer is thicker than the filling inside, and it’s this firmness that gives these implants the ability to maintain their shape. Comparatively speaking, the consistency of the silicone inside is similar to Gummy Bear candy, hence the name. Gummy bear implants are offered in a teardrop shape. Teardrop differs from circular not just in shape but projection. Implants like this hold less filler in the top, with the weight predominately at the bottom giving more projection than the round implants.

The Benefits of Gummy Bear Implants

Smaller chances of folding or rippling.

The material used to construct the teardrop shaped implants is more resistant to migration. There is cross-linking on each to provide wearers with more stability.

You get a more natural look.

As we previously mentioned, gummy implants are available in a teardrop shape. The rounded bottom and thinner top mimic a natural breast shape, and the gummy silicone inside has a firmness that looks more natural.

Chances are they won’t leak.

Fold lines on the implant usually cause implant leakage. Pressure adds to the stress and can cause them to break at these delicate areas. Gummy bear implants are less likely to leak because they don’t develop these fold lines.

They offer you more stability.

The cohesive gel interior and firm silicone exterior are semi-solid. With such a firm structure, the implants have less opportunity to travel far. Less traveling under the muscle or breast tissue reduces the risk of rupture.

The implants will hold their shape longer.

Gummy bear implants are made from silicone, but the construction is much firmer. The being said, they will have the long-lasting effects of silicone but look more natural and be more durable.

What You Should Know Before Breast Augmentation Surgery

Every surgery will start with a consultation with a trusted cosmetic surgeon. During this meeting, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss everything about the procedure and what is the best fit for your body.  A few topic points you’ll want to include are:

– Incision placement – there are three incision points: around the nipple, the breast fold, and under the arm. Knowing the incision points gives you an idea where you will find scarring.

– Implant placement – you have two options for placement: under the muscle or under the breast tissue. You and your surgeon can discuss which one is the best for your body.

– Cost – At your consultation, you will receive the final cost estimate for your procedure. Costs will cover anesthesia fees, the implants, and surgeon’s fees amongst many other things like testing.

At Marvel Cosmetic Surgery, our pricing is all-inclusive. When you meet with our expert team of surgeons, you’ll receive one-on-one attention to answer all of your questions and help you develop a procedural plan that’s right for you. With payments as low as $99 a month, there’s no better time to call and book a consultation at 615-205-9771.

When Should I Consider a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy Makeover

A Mommy Makeover isn’t one product, but a package of services customizable for each person. The idea is to give mothers an opportunity to restore and reshape areas of their body post-baby. Because of its flexibility, women can add and subtract various surgeries and procedures to tailor the package to their needs, but with so many options available, how do you know which is right for you? We’ve addressed the most common options our clients request when putting together their Mommy Makeover, their benefits, and how you know you are ready!

You Want to Define Curves

For those who are looking to lose weight in the tummy, hips, and thighs, there are liposuction treatments that will get you back to your pre-pregnancy body.

Liposuction

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty and body contouring surgery, is a popular cosmetic procedure that uses suction to remove excess fat deposits from the skin and muscle. This procedure works well on stubborn fat deposits. Read more about Liposuction

SlimLipo™

SlimLipo™ is a liposuction technique that uses laser wavelengths to dissolve fat. And unlike traditional liposuction, there is no need for general anesthesia and extensive downtime. With a few tiny incisions, this laser gently “melts” fat for quick and permanent results. Since the lasers stimulate skin cells into producing collagen and elastin, you can also tighten up the skin;

Special note: Liposuction treatments aren’t a form of weight loss. The right candidate for liposuction has lost most of the baby weight before they undergo surgery. Fat cells are easily reproduced by the body, so you want to be as close to your ideal weight as possible. Read more about SlimLipo™

Tummy Tucks

Tummy tucks are also quite popular and will help dramatically improve your stomach’s appearance by reducing excess fat, skin, and tissue. You can also use this procedure to repair any abdominal separation. You can choose between two options. A Mini Tummy Tuck focuses on the lower abdomen by tightening the muscles and reducing loose skin. This surgical procedure flattens the look of the belly, but with less invasive techniques than a standard tummy tuck. A standard Tummy Tuck focuses on a larger area of the torso. Your doctor can help you decide the best option. Read more about Tummy Tucks

You Want to Restore Lost Breast Volume

If breastfeeding has left you with noticeably thinner or saggy breasts, you have a couple of options to restore lost volume. While you can breastfeed if you have implants, we don’t recommend nursing mothers to undergo surgery.

Breast Lift

A breast lift can help repair and reshape your breasts without the need for implants. Depending on the amount repair required, an incision around the areola or down the breast allows for skin to be tightened and the nipple to be raised. This procedure will help restore your breast to a more youthful position. If a more dramatic look is favored, a breast augmentation can also be a good option to give volume and lift to the chest. Read more about Breast Lift

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation is another option to restore lost breast volume. Implants can help to balance your figure, boost your confidence and restore volume to your chest. Breast augmentation is a major surgery that does require some recovery time. There are many different sizes, shapes, and fillers available which allows each client to customize the look. Deciding on what shape and size to go with is best discussed in your consultation, just bring along some pictures. Read more about Breast Augmentation

You’re Ready to Smooth Out Lines

Late nights can leave you with noticeable lines around the face and eyes. There are facials, injections, and skin-resurfacing treatments that will help.

Botox®

Botox® works by using Botulinum toxins, which are injected directly into the facial muscle to restrict muscle movement. Deeply etched lines in the face, often created by intense concentration or constant furrowing, will smooth out with regular use. Regular Botox treatments mean preventing new creases from forming while smoothing out the appearance of what you already have. Read more about Botox®

Fillers

Fillers are made with hyaluronic acid which is injected into the face to smooth wrinkles. The filler itself has a gel-like consistency that is injected into the skin to smooth fine lines. These particular fillers can last from 6 to 12 months before being absorbed. Brands such as Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma, and Restylane are all options for those who are interested in the Hyaluronic Acid option. Read more about Fillers

Regardless of the option you choose, the procedure is non-invasive, which means you can start a treatment plan soon after giving birth.

What should I do next?

Mothers in the Nashville, Franklin and Tullahoma area looking to restore their post-baby body should consider a mommy makeover.

How to Choose the Ideal Breast Implant Size

Breast Implant Size

Breast implant surgery is one of the most popular requests at Marvel Cosmetic Surgery. Many women use this procedure as a way to achieve a curvy silhouette or as part of reconstruction after double mastectomy. Fortunately, for anyone who is considering breast augmentation, there are many choices available to achieve the look you want. Our goal is to make this decision as easy as possible for you, so we put together a quick guide on how to choose the right breast implants.

Breast Implant Shape

Let’s first discuss the different shapes. Implants come in two shapes, round and teardrop, and each delivers very different results. It’s important to understand this when deciding which option is better for your figure.

Round

Round is one of the most popular shapes, and these implants closely resemble a flat disc. The reason it’s so popular is that of its ability to achieve different projections (the distance from the chest wall in profile). This allows you to tailor the look to your figure a little more. Round implants are great for overall volume, filling out the top of the breast, and getting better cleavage. With this shape, you won’t have to worry about implant rotation, but some believe the result might look more artificial.

Teardrop

The second option is the teardrop, which closely mimics the shape of the natural breast. This option, though it holds less filler at the top, actually delivers more projection than the round, as the bulk of its volume is situated at the bottom of the implant. To reduce the risk of movement or rotation, the implants are texturized which means they can cost more. This is something to consider if the budget plays a factor in your final decision. However, if you want to go larger with less risk of looking “done,” the teardrop shape is for you.

Breast Implant Cup Size

Cup sizes will look different for each person because everyone’s shape and stature vary. It’s best when considering your desired cup to focus on overall look rather than the actual letter. For example, a leaner frame with a DD might be too big or not have enough breast tissue to accommodate a jump in scale. A larger framed woman, however, who wants the same DD might find that this cup size doesn’t yield the desired projection and might find going up to an E or G is more suitable.

The reality is, size is relative, and it’s best to discuss with your doctor what your visions are so they can help you achieve the best results. Many doctors like inspiration so when you book a consultation, bring in images (and we mean plural) to give them an idea of your desired shape. From there, they can recommend the best cup size for you.

Breast Implant Filler Options

With the advancement in breast augmentation procedure, there are many different implant fillers you can receive. All of them achieve great results and deciding between one and the other is personal preference. We’ve highlighted the most common choices.

Silicone

Silicone implants are an option for women who do not have a lot of soft tissue coverage, offering a more natural, softer feel that resembles natural breast tissue. While saline implants are filled post-implantation, silicone gel implants come pre-filled. The silicone gel in modern implants is a thick, semi-cohesive substance that has a consistency similar to that of gummy bear candy.

Saline

Saline breast implants are made from a silicone shell with saline fluid. Saline implants are inserted through small under your breast or pectoralis muscle. Once inserted, your doctor inflates the implant with sterile saline or salt water. What’s great about saline, is in the unlikely event of a rupture your body will harmlessly absorb the fluid. Because of its shape and the general consistency of saline, saline implants are sometimes described as feeling like water balloons and do not have the same feel of natural breasts.

Gummy

Gummy implants are the latest option for breast implants. Essentially, the implant is in the silicone family, but with a different take. Gummy implants have a silicone shell filled with silicone-gel and come in a “teardrop” shape. The gel itself is firmer than other options, so if this is important to you, these implants might be a good choice. The cross-linking provides more stability, and many wearers suggest they have the most natural appearance. Because of their firmness, they do require a slightly larger incision than other options. If you are considering implants as part of reconstructive surgery, the Gummy is ideal because the implant doesn’t need to fit around existing breast tissue.

Different Types of Breast Implants

Different Types of Breast Implants

For those considering Breast Augmentation, the options are now better than ever. Advances in technology have only improved and this procedure continues to offer women a safe way to achieve the silhouette they want. From size, look, and feel of an implant, there are so many options to choose from to get the curves you’ve always wanted.

Different Cup Size

Implants come in a variety of sizes and can be customized to your needs. Because everyone’s shape is different, specific cup sizes will look different on each body. Many women think bigger is better, but you must consider what you already have and how it will work when added to your new implant size. It’s best when researching to focus on overall look rather than the actual cup size. For some leaner frames, a DD might be too big and there may not be enough breast tissue to accommodate such a jump in scale. However, a larger framed woman with same DD might find that this cup size doesn’t yield the desired projection she wants and a more substantial cup would work better. In reality, size is relative, and it’s best to discuss with your doctor what your visions are so they can help you achieve the most suitable option for you.

Traditional Shapes

Implants come in two shapes, round and teardrop, and yield vastly different results. This is essential to understand when choosing what will work best with your figure.

Round

A round implant is a popular shape that resembles a flat disc. There are a variety of options available to achieve your desired profile projection (the distance from the chest wall when you stand to the side), and you can tailor the size to suit your figure. Round implants are fantastic for overall volume as they fill out the top of the breast and give better cleavage. Because of their symmetry, you won’t have to worry about implant rotation. However, some may feel the result look more artificial.

Teardrop

A teardrop shape more closely mimics the natural curve of a breast. This option, though it holds less filler at the top, actually delivers the most projection, as the bulk of its volume is situated at the bottom of the implant. Teardrop implants can also be pricier than round because they need texturizing to reduce the risk of movement or rotation. If budget plays a part in the consideration stage, you’ll want to keep this in mind. However, if you want to go larger with less risk of looking “done,” the teardrop shape is for you.

Types of Material

Both saline and silicone implants have an outer silicone shell. The biggest difference is the fluid used inside.

Saline: Saline implants are deflated with they are inserted into the body and then filled with sterile salt water when they are in place. They are safe to use on any adult 18 years or older.

What happens if saline ruptures: If leakage occurs in a saline implant, the fluid inside will seep out into the body rapidly. Because saline is just salty water, the body will absorb the liquid without any complications. However, undergoing surgery is necessary to remove the empty sack.

Silicone: The silicone implant is filled with a sticky gel that mimics the feel of body fat. Most women have said the look and feel of silicone implants are similar to normal breast tissue.

What happens if silicone ruptures: Leakage in a silicone implant won’t show rapid results like the saline implant will. Because the liquid is thick, it most likely will get stuck in the surrounding breast tissue. Silicone won’t cause breast cancer, tissue disease, or arthritis. Most women feel only slight pain and discomfort. Surgery is then performed to remove and replace the implant.

Breast Reconstruction Surgery After a Mastectomy

Breast Reconstruction Surgery After a Mastectomy

For woman who have undergone a mastectomy, breast reconstruction surgery is a great option to restore the shape or rebuild the breast altogether. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s take a closer look at all the options available.

Breast implants and a mastectomy:

First, we should mention that anyone having reconstructive breast surgery does not need to worry about time limitations. Whether as part of treatment for cancer or as a preventative measure, reconstructive surgery can happen at any stage during the mastectomy or after. Even several years after.

Below we list several options to consider based on your personal taste and budget.

Implant types to consider for breast reconstruction:

Implants come in two shapes: round and teardrop. Each shape gives a different look, so it is important to choose what looks best on your figure.

Round:

Round is quite an attractive shape, and the implant looks like a flat disc. What’s great about the round implant is the variety of options available to achieve different projections (the distance from the chest wall in profile). Round implants are optimal for overall volume, filling out the top of the breast, and getting better cleavage. Because of their symmetry, you won’t have to worry about implant rotation. However, some may feel the result might look more artificial.

Teardrop:

The second option is the teardrop shape, which closely mimics the natural shape of the breast. This option, though it holds less filler at the top, actually delivers the most projection, as the bulk of its volume sits at the bottom of the implant. Teardrop implants can also be pricier than the round. The texturized implants reduce the risk of movement or rotation and therefore cost a bit more. This is something to consider if your budget plays a factor in your final decision. However, if you want to go larger with less risk of looking “done,” the teardrop shape is for you.

How to choose a cup size:

Because everyone’s shape is different, individual cup sizes will look different on each body. It’s best when researching to focus on the overall look rather than the actual cup. For some leaner frames, a DD might be too big and in the end not have enough breast tissue to accommodate such a jump in scale. A larger framed woman, however, who wants the same DD might find that this cup size doesn’t yield the desired projection and might find a more generous cup works better. In reality, size is relative, and it’s best to discuss with your doctor what your visions are so they can help you achieve the most suitable option for you.

Silicone or Saline? What’s the Difference?

Silicone or Saline? What’s the Difference?

For those who are considering a breast augmentation, the options available today are better than ever. But which is the better choice, saline or silicone? This debate has been around forever. If you are considering breast augmentation, read on to discover the key differences and find out which option is best for you.

Before we dive into the pro’s and con’s, let’s take a look at the two most common misconceptions about saline and silicone implants.

The Material

Both saline and silicone implants have an outer silicone shell. The biggest difference is the fluid used inside.

Saline: Saline implants are inserted empty and filled with sterile salt water. They are safe enough to use on any adult 18 years or older.

Silicone: The silicone implant is filled with a sticky gel that mimics the feel of body fat. Most women have said the look and feel of silicone implants are similar to normal breast tissue.

A Rupture

Though ruptures don’t happen often, it is something to consider when deciding which implant will work best for you.

Saline: If leakage occurs in a saline implant, the fluid inside will seep out into the body pretty rapidly. Because saline is salty water, the body will absorb the liquid without any complications. Undergoing surgery is necessary to remove the empty sack.

Silicone: Leakage in a silicone implant won’t show rapid results like the saline option. Because the liquid is thick, it most likely will get stuck in the surrounding breast tissue. Silicone won’t cause breast cancer, tissue disease, or arthritis. Most women feel only slight pain and discomfort. Surgery is then performed to remove and replace the implant.

Now that we’ve had time to address these factors let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of each.

Silicone Implants

Pros:

  • Natural look
  • Natural feel
  • Low rate of ripping/wrinkling
  • Lighter than saline
  • Maintains perkier shape

Cons:

  • Longer scar because implants inserted are pre-filled
  • Higher price point

  • MRI required need to detect rupture

Saline Implants

Pros:

  • Lower rate of revision surgery
  • Capsular contracture is low
  • Shorter scar
  • Lower cost
  • Now need for MRI if leakage occurs

Cons:

  • Can sometimes look too round
  • Feel unnatural and stiff
  • Higher rate of downward displacement
  • Heavier than silicon

Cosmetic Surgery After Extreme Weight Loss

Cosmetic Surgery After Extreme Weight Loss

Dramatic weight loss should be a rewarding experience. The long journey of hard work through diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery can be full of emotional highs and lows. The end goal is to feel healthy, happy, and full of vitality. So, if you have undergone a body transformation but are left with sagging skin, there are solutions to help tone and define the figure you worked so hard to achieve. Here is everything you need to know about plastic surgery after weight loss.

When to Consider Weight Loss Surgery

Sometimes, even though the goal weight has been reached, there are still areas of the body that need help, which diet and exercise can’t fix. Weight loss surgery is ideal for anyone who has excess skin on the stomach, arms, neck, and breast. There are various procedures available to help tighten and tone your body. A consultation with your doctor can help you determine the right treatment plan for you.

Am I the Right Candidate?

Diet and exercise need to be a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Before you go under the knife, we recommend at least 6-12 months of stable eating and body maintenance before considering surgery. To get the most out of your procedure, you want to make sure your body weight has plateaued, and you don’t plan to lose or gain any more weight. This is important because sometimes problem areas can shift during the weight loss process. But, if you are maintaining stability, then you and your doctor can address your concerns to give you the optimal possible results.

Procedures to Consider

1. Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, reduces excess fat and skin from the waist, and in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles. A tummy tuck is beneficial for smoothing and firming your abdominal profile. During your procedure, an incision is made from hip to hip. The entire abdominal wall lifts, and the underlying muscles tightened. The skin is then pulled down and re-draped to produce a flatter belly and more defined waist.

2.  Neck Lift

A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that reduces excess skin from the jawline and neck. The neck lift begins with a small incision under the chin and the ear. Your doctor will then manipulate your muscles to create a tighter contour. Once this is achieved, excess skin is removed and the skin is re-draped. It’s important to note, neck lift patients are given a supportive garment to wear around the jaw for at least a week after surgery to keep the new contours in place.

3. Breast lift

If you have experienced loss of volume in the upper portion of your breasts due to weight loss, you might consider a breast lift, also known as mastopexy. The procedure is performed by making an incision in the breast to tighten the skin and raise the height of the nipple.  The surgical technique hides scarring around the nipple and on the bottom of the chest. The entire procedure lasts about two or three hours.

4. Liposuction

Liposuction is a popular cosmetic procedure that uses suction to remove excess fat deposits between the skin and muscle. This technique works well on stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to a strict diet or targeted exercise. This is an option to consider if you want to remove stubborn body fat and create a slimmer profile.
